No there were no fistfights, but close sleeping quarters, freezing rain, cold showers and general fatigue began to get the best of Team Deucebag Monday and Tuesday. Monday was a 70 mile ride up every hill known to Iowa, I believe the route coordinators had us going in circles just to make sure we hit everyone. About 2PM Monday the rain started (none forcasted), then the wind, then a few ill advised stops (Deb's massage at mile 8, Papa's repeated visit to fertilize the corn, beer tents in every town). I realize I should'nt have been surprised at the outcome. However, Tuesday would be a new day and new attitudes...Debbie and Staci set out on their own as did Papa, Joe, Captain, and P-Daddy. The group of guys formed a tight peloton early and clipped along at a courageous pace. We kept this pace until about mile 76 of 77 when we came up on the Team Hard and Team Bad Monkey party in the corn field with The Reverend complete with Beer slide, volleyball, free food and beer..all for charity. We made it to camp and set up shop and then got the low down from the girls, who apparently made it their priority to stop at every party stop and have a relaxing ride without the guys pressuring them.
Ishould mention that the Boys from Oklahoma can hold there own when it comes to a competition scholling some college kids at Beer Pong and swimming pool basketball. We may be older but we are definately more experienced. I'll close for now as we are about to head into the town square of Indianola to mingle wit the locals.
Did Mike and Jeremy plan their outfits?
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great time. I wish you were riding in Oklahoma so I could visit the pit stops instead of work :)
